-Ry-
It doesn't take me long to get to Wes's house, and I pull up behind his car like he instructed. Since it's pretty cold this morning, I decide to just wait in the car and send Wes a text that I'm here. But before I get the chance, I hear the front door closing, making me look up to see his dad walking out with a duffel and what looks like a sleeping bag tucked under his arm, all while carrying what I'm assuming is the tent based on the little picture on the side of the bag.
I hurry out of the truck and jog over to him. "Need some help?"
"Ryland. You're here just in time. And I'd appreciate that a lot."
"It's no problem." I reach for the tent and walk with him to the trunk of his vehicle, setting it in after he opens it.
"There we go," he says once he sets the other stuff in it. "You've been doing alright?"
"Yes, Sir. I've been doing great. What about you?"
"I'm happy to be back home, but I hate the circumstances." I give him a curious look. "I was denied my request to be off for Wesley's birthday. This trip was originally planned for then, but since I knew I was going to be off this weekend, I thought I'd take advantage. I'm glad you were able to join us."
"Me too. It sounded fun when Wes invited me."
"It is a lot of fun. Oh, and he should join us any minute now. He was just getting out of the shower when I came out."
"Okay."
"Want to throw your stuff back here?"
"Oh, yeah. Let me go get it."
I walk back over to my truck and grab my duffel and keys before locking it up. I set it his trunk, zipping my keys up in it.
"So have you ever been camping?"
"No, I haven't."
"Definitely not in the middle of February, huh?" he asks with a laugh.
"Can't say I have," I say, letting a small laugh out myself, though I can't help but feel awkward. Not that I don't like him, of course, but I do wish Wes would hurry. Even though I knew I was going on a trip with him involved, I didn't think about the moments we'd be alone together. I'm starting to feel a little nervous. What if I say the wrong thing?
"It's not exactly the ideal time of year to do it, but I got us a nice little heater that'll hopefully do the job. We should still have a good time."
"Oh, yeah, I'm sure we will," I agree with him.
Before he can say anything else, the front door closes, drawing our attention to see Wes coming out with his own bag. God, he looks so good. He's so cute in the thick jacket he's wearing. And I'm sure it's cold to him, but why does he have to be so hot with damp hair? It's hard having a boyfriend that's both insanely hot and adorably cute at the same time.
I'm fast to avert my eyes once I notice I'm staring, remembering his list of rules, but with how quickly I did it, I'm a little worried it was suspicious. But I don't think his dad noticed because he reaches for his bag when he's closer and sets it in the car for him.
"Do you have everything you need, Wesley?" he asks, closing the trunk.
"Yeah," he answers.
"Okay. Either of you need to use the bathroom before we leave?" Wes shakes his head before glancing at me.
"I'm okay."
"Alright. I'm going to make sure everything is turned off and lock up. I have the heat on low if you boys want to go ahead and get in."
