At lunch, I walked over to the table where Scott and Allison were already seated—and kissing like their lives depended on it.
"Seriously?" I said, dropping my tray onto the table with a thud. "I'm so tired of third-wheeling, you guys."
They broke apart, laughing.
"Then get yourself a boyfriend," Allison said with a playful smile.
Scott groaned. "Don't encourage him."
Allison ignored him, turning back to me. "Have you met Scott's brother? He's cute. And I think he's bi."
"What?" Scott exclaimed, looking horrified. "No way. Not my brother. Stiles deserves better."
I burst out laughing, unable to resist. "Yeah, no thanks. If he looks anything like you, I'll pass."
"Hey!" Scott said, feigning offense.
"Sorry," I said, still grinning. "You're just not my type."
Scott turned to Allison, mockingly indignant. "Can you believe this guy?"
Allison laughed and patted his arm. "It's okay, babe. Not everyone can appreciate you like I do."
Scott rolled his eyes but then smirked. "Besides, he's got Matt."
Allison tilted her head curiously. "Matt? Who's Matt?"
Scott smirked like he'd been waiting to bring this up. "This guy Stiles met at the coffee shop."
Allison blinked, her expression briefly unreadable. "The coffee shop? The same one your b—" She cut herself off abruptly, her eyes darting to Scott's. "You know what? Never mind." She turned back to me, her curiosity piqued. "So tell me about this Matt guy."
I hesitated for a second, feeling the sudden shift in Allison's tone, but shrugged it off. "There's not much to tell. He's just... this guy. He works at the coffee shop. He's annoying, overly confident, and kind of—"
"Hot," Scott interjected with a smirk.
I shot him a glare. "I was going to say persistent."
Allison laughed. "Sounds like he's got you figured out."
"Please," I said, rolling my eyes. "I'm not that easy."
Scott and Allison exchanged a look, and I groaned. "Okay, fine. Maybe I like him a little."
"Just a little?" Allison teased.
"Don't start," I warned, though I couldn't stop the small smile creeping onto my face.
"So when do we get to meet this Matt?" Scott asked, grinning.
I shook my head. "Not happening. You'd scare him off."
Scott snorted. "If he's putting up with you, I doubt it."
Allison laughed, and we spent the rest of lunch talking about anything and everything except Matt—or at least, I tried to steer the conversation that way. But every so often, Allison would give me this knowing look that made me feel like she'd figured out more than I was ready to admit.

After school, as I was heading to my car, my phone buzzed. It was a text from Matt.
Matt: Meet me at the coffee shop when you leave school.
I rolled my eyes at his lack of punctuation and didn't bother replying. Still, I found myself driving straight there.
When I pulled into the parking lot, I spotted Matt sitting in his car. He grinned when he saw me, motioning for me to come over. I sighed, got out of my car, and knocked on his window.
"Hop in," he said, rolling the window down and flashing me one of his signature smirks.
I hesitated for a moment but got in. "Okay, what's this about?"
Matt just started driving, not answering me right away.
"Uh, where are you taking me? And what about my car?" I asked, glancing back at the parking lot as we pulled away.
"It's a surprise," he said with a sly grin. "Don't worry, I'll bring you back to your car later."
We drove for a while, the town giving way to winding roads and dense trees. I started to feel a little uneasy as the woods closed in around us.
"Is this the part where you kill me and dump my body in the middle of nowhere?" I joked, though there was a hint of nervousness in my voice.
Matt laughed, parking in a small clearing surrounded by tall pines. "Relax, Stiles. I'm not that kind of guy."
When I looked around, I saw a blanket spread out with a picnic basket sitting on it. My eyes widened in surprise.
"Seriously?" I said, trying to sound unimpressed but failing miserably.
Matt smirked as he got out of the car. "What? I can be romantic."
I followed him to the blanket, muttering, "Sure you can," though my heart was doing somersaults.
We sat down, and he pulled out sandwiches, chips, and even a thermos of coffee. "I figured you'd like this better than some fancy restaurant."
I shrugged, pretending not to care. "It's fine, I guess."
But the truth? It was more than fine. It was... thoughtful.
We talked as we ate—about everything and nothing. He told me more about his grandma and how much she loved knitting scarves for him before moving into the home. I told him about my dad's obsession with law enforcement documentaries and how they were basically the only thing playing in our house.
At some point, Matt leaned closer, brushing a stray crumb off my cheek. His hand lingered, and I froze, my heart racing.
"You know," he said softly, his eyes locked on mine, "I like you."
My breath caught, and before I could respond, he continued.
"Like, really like you." He paused, searching my face. "So... what do you think? Wanna be my boyfriend?"
I stared at him, caught off guard. But then I smiled—like, full-on smiled—and nodded. "Yeah. Okay."
He grinned, leaning in to kiss me. And wow, did he kiss me.
One thing led to another, and soon we were tangled up in each other. The forest around us faded away as everything narrowed down to just him and me. It was messy, exciting, and raw.
Afterward, we lay on the blanket, the late afternoon sun filtering through the trees. Matt turned his head to look at me, a lazy smile on his face.
"See? Told you I could be romantic."
I laughed, swatting his arm. "Don't let it go to your head."
But as I stared up at the sky, I couldn't help but think that maybe, just maybe, this wasn't such a bad idea after all.
