Several years later.
The faint scent of sandalwood and polished wood filled the air as the late afternoon sun cast golden streaks through the wide windows of the dojo. The mats were pristine, the walls adorned with framed photographs—some of past tournaments, others of students who had come and gone, each one a piece of their shared history.
Kwon stood at the front of the class, hands behind his back, watching as the youngest group of students lined up in perfect rows. They were barely old enough to tie their belts properly, but their energy was infectious.
Beside him, Soojin adjusted the sleeves of her gi, her fingers brushing over the embroidered name stitched onto the fabric: Kwon Soojin. The title still felt surreal sometimes, even after years of marriage.
"Sensei Kwon! Sensei Soojin! Are we learning something new today?" one of the kids piped up, practically bouncing in place.
Kwon smirked. "That depends. Did you all practice what we taught you last week?"
A chorus of eager "Yes, Sensei!" rang out.
Soojin chuckled, placing her hands on her hips. "Good. But before we get started, I have an announcement."
The students stilled, their young faces turning up at her expectantly.
Kwon glanced at his wife, eyes soft with amusement. "You want me to say it?"
Soojin rolled her eyes playfully. "I think I can handle it." She took a breath, feeling the familiar warmth of excitement and nerves. "I won't be teaching class for a little while."
A few gasps erupted. "Why not?" one student asked, eyes wide with concern.
Soojin exchanged a look with Kwon, who grinned, his arm casually wrapping around her waist. "Because," she said, resting a hand on her stomach, "I'm going to have a baby."
Silence stretched for half a second—then chaos.
"You're having a baby?! Whoa!"
"Can we teach them karate?!"
"Can I name them?!"
Kwon let out a loud laugh as Soojin raised a hand, trying (and failing) to settle them down.
"Yes, yes, calm down!" she said, unable to hide her smile. "The baby won't be sparring with you anytime soon, but once they're old enough, I'm sure they'll be around."
"Who's gonna teach us while you're gone?" a girl in the front row asked, crossing her arms.
Kwon grinned. "That would be me. And trust me, I won't go easy on you just because Sensei Soojin isn't here."
Groans and playful protests echoed through the room, making Soojin laugh.
As the kids settled, Kwon turned to his wife, his voice dropping just enough so only she could hear. "Guess there's no turning back now."
Soojin glanced at him, amusement flickering in her eyes as she squeezed his hand. "Would you want to?"
Kwon let out a soft chuckle, shaking his head. "Not for a second."
Her expression softened, warmth filling her chest. "Then yeah," she murmured. "We're really doing this."
He lifted their joined hands, pressing a brief kiss to her knuckles. "And we're gonna be damn good at it."
