Gasps turned into silence as the entire room became still. Parents, teachers, students—all of them were now nothing more than statues, their expressions of shock and fear permanently frozen in time.
Luna’s breath caught in her throat. Her hands clenched into fists, nails digging into her palms as she forced herself to stay strong.

“I know. Why don’t we start by getting rid of this?”
Before either of them could react, Maleficent waved her hand, her magic surging forward.
Mal gasped as she felt a sharp, invisible force rip against her skin. A second later, she watched in horror as the ring Ben had given her—a symbol of their love, of her choice—was yanked from her finger, floating in midair before landing neatly in Maleficent’s palm.
At the same time, Luna let out a small gasp of shock, instinctively reaching for her hand. The beautiful ring Xavier had given her—the one that meant everything to her—was ripped from her finger as well.
Maleficent’s fingers closed around both rings as she let out a cruel laugh. “Falling in love is weak... and ridiculous,” she sneered. “It’s not what you want.”
